About
We appreciate your interest in the Hampden Garden Club. We are a group of gardeners who enjoy getting together with others who share our enthusiasm. Our activities include monthly meetings with a variety of programs, speakers, and hands-on projects. In the summer we go on field trips to gardens and nurseries of special interest.
In May we hold our one fundraiser of the year, the Perennial Plant Sale. We offer for sale hundreds of plants grown and potted by members and friends. Preparing for the sale is hard work, but also a lot of fun, and we learn valuable information about plants in the process. |
Proceeds from the sale support our club activities as well as help us maintain and restore historic Harmony Hall at 24 Kennebec Road. This beautiful building, which has an interesting history, was constructed in 1828. It has been maintained by the club since 1937 and owned by us since 1966. This ownership gives us pride but also carries quite a responsibility for its care.

We are proud of our group's contribution to the town of Hampden. Our major civic activity is caring for six public garden areas in Hampden. These are at the gazebo at Lura Hoit Pool, the War Memorial and median by the Town Office, the sign at Reeds Brook School, Dorothea Dix Park, and in front of Harmony Hall.
We are affiliated with the Garden Club Federation of Maine (GCFM) and the Penobscot District which includes clubs from Brewer, Veazie, Orrington, Milo, and Sebasticook. Both the state and district organizations offer educational and social opportunities.
Our regular meetings are on the fourth Tuesday of the month, and visitors are warmly welcomed. Our officers are elected in May for two year terms. Dues are $15 per year. We look forward to having you join with us in our activities and hopefully become a member. We will learn from each other and form some great friendships.
